Abu Dhabi International Airport Interim Development

Abu Dhabi International Airport (ADAC) commissioned AviaSolutions to undertake a review of interim capacity solutions for the expansion of current infrastructure prior to the opening of a new mid – field terminal complex.

The recent acceleration of new aircraft orders by the airport’s base carrier Etihad Airways has meant that there will be a requirement for further infrastructure developments.  This will exceed the capacity of current facilities, including the latest Terminal 3 development.

Working closely with ADAC, we:

  • Analysed a range of forecast scenarios based around the future operational schedules of Etihad Airways to determine peak stand demand and derive terminal busy hour rates.
  • Assessed ways to deliver additional stand infrastructure.
  • Determined the balance between transfer and originating/departing passengers.
  • Modelled space – facility requirements for terminal infrastructure based on busy hour rates and traffic type.

Balancing the interim nature of the facility, we developed a range of infrastructure options with differing levels of customer service and indicative cost.  These options met the future demand requirements for Abu Dhabi International Airport over the short term.
