12/01/2006 - AviaSolutions supports Welsh PSO

AviaSolutions' continues to support the Welsh Assembly Government, as an invitation to tender (ITT) is published in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU). This ITT will be for the operation of a Public Service Obligation (PSO) on the air route between Cardiff and RAF Valley, Anglesey. AviaSolutions has been closely involved in assisting the development of air services within Wales, having carried out a high level assessment of suitable airports, assessing the environmental and economic impacts of the services and writing the PSO application that was approved by the UK's Department for Transport (DfT).

Air services are expected to commence in early 2007 and represent the first new mainland PSO air route for over 10 years, the last being awarded in 1996 by the Scottish Executive between Glasgow and Campbeltown.

The air service will have the following key characteristics:

• Connect Cardiff and RAF Valley, Anglesey
• Operate Monday to Friday
• Offer daily returns in both directions
• Have a maximum one way fare of £50
