History

 

2009

  • Undertaken a traffic forecasting exercise at a major hub airport in support of a forthcoming public inquiry into an additional runway.
  • Supported a leading European airport operator in a strategic review of its business. This included providing analysis of key trends within the aviation industry, and their underlying drivers.
  • Carried out an independent assessment of the ASUR airport masterplans, on behalf of the Mexican Ministry of Communications and Transport (SCT).
  • Advisor to BAA on sale of London Gatwick Airport.  AviaSolutions provided traffic, technical and commercial vendor due diligence on the asset.
  • Retained by a leading airport in the Middle East to formulate and assist in implementing a strategic plan for the expansion of its Cargo Facility.
  • Retained by a major consortium seeking to invest in a mid sized regional airport in France.  This included providing advisory services on passenger and cargo forecasts and a review of the business plan.
  • Undertaken a benchmarking analysis of relevant BOT airport transactions for an Asian airport operator focusing on key transaction parameters such as tender duration, concession structure and duration, and capital investment commitments.  In addition we carried out a benchmarking analysis of aeronautical fees and charges of comparable competitor airports in the region with a view to assessing the competitiveness of the airport
  • Support for European flag carrier including network review.
  • Development of a full Masterplan for a major airport in East Africa.
  • Traffic Forecast study for a major airport in the Middle East.
  • Undertaking transport benchmarking assignment for Tourism Ireland.


2008

  • In the transaction space, we undertook due diligence for a European airline and a number of different airport assets within different parts of Europe – including separate transactions in Eastern, Southern and Northern Europe. These projects included traffic, revenue, operating cost and capital expenditure projections. We also supported a range of potential airport transactions across Asia Pacific and South Asia.
  • Completed a detailed masterplan and strategic review of Bahrain International Airport on behalf of Bahrain Airport Company. This involved reviewing and updating traffic forecasts and producing a development plan for the phased expansion of the airport, including a financial appraisal.
  • Supported the Scottish Government at the 2008 ROUTES Conference in Kuala Lumpur, presenting high level route forecasts and market intelligence, including market engagement strategies for Asian carriers.
  • Assisted a start-up airline in the development of its business plan.
  • Continued support for Newquay Cornwall Airport.


2007

  • Closed and signed final documentation with the Austin Airport and City of Austin for AviaSolutions first Low cost airport facility as part of the AviaLCT platform.
  • As part of the ANA privatisation process, AviaSolutions was commissioned by a consortium to undertake a high level review of the business in advance of the release of an IM.
  • Supported easyJet in updating network development systems and processes.
  • Continued involvement in a range of major UK and worldwide airport transactions and due diligence processes, including airports in all parts of Europe, Asia, Middle East, Australasia and both North and South America.
  • Helped Newquay Cornwall Airport achieve funding to secure the long term future of the airport and secured over half a dozen new routes to the rapidly growing airport.
  • Appointed to undertake a client development manager role for the potential development of Inverness Airport, commenting on conceptual designs, development programme and cost plan.
  • Due Diligence for potential investors in two European, one Middle Eastern and one Asian airline, covering the low cost, full service and cargo sectors. The scope of our support included review of current strategy, financial health and positioning in the market.
  • Further support to the consultation activities for BAA Stansted Generation 2 future development including response processing, analysing and reporting.
  • AviaSolutions continues to provide marketing and analytical support to the Welsh Assembly Government in the implementation of the Route Development Fund.
  • GE Commercial Aviation Services (GECAS) completed the acquisition of a majority stake in AviaSolutions. We now plan to expand our consultancy services into global markets, focusing on growth areas in Asia and the Americas.

 

2006

  • Appointed by BAA to manage Stansted Generation 2 public consultation process.
  • Broadening range of financial clients with advisory work secured on a number of international airport and aviation related investments.
  • Appointed by UK DfT to advise on response to European Commission on alternative mechanisms for airport slot allocation.
  • Retained by Exeter Airport to assist in developing its master plan and by shareholders to advise on the sale of the airport.
  • Appointed by Avinor in Norway to undertake route development work.
  • Appointed by Portuguese and Irish tourism bodies to advise on marketing strategies.
  • Developed traffic forecasts for Berlin Airports, including strategic advice on business plan for new Berlin Brandenburg International Airport.


2005

  • Developed business and financing plan for Etihad Airways to support lease of 8 A330 wide body aircraft.
  • Designed and implemented network evaluation application for Etihad Airways.
  • Supported financial investors in a range of airport related transactions and refinancing including Macquarie (Bristol, Exeter, Copenhagen, Budapest), Abertis (Slovakia) and Hochtief (India).
  • Launched the Welsh Route Development Fund.
  • Advised DfT on response to draft European State Aid Guidelines.
  • Expanded aviaforecasts by undertaking forecasting work for Cardiff, Belfast, Liverpool, Newquay.
  • Appointed by FlyBe to undertake analysis of new markets.

      
2004

  • Launched AviaForecasts.
  • Detailed 30 year forecasts produced for Birmingham and Bristol Airports.
  • Developed requirements for interim terminal facility at Abu Dhabi which was opened within 8 months.
  • Undertook market perception study for BAA Aberdeen.

 
2003

  • Launched Route Development Funds (RDFs) for Scotland and Northern Ireland, with immediate success in attracting new international carriers (50+ new routes have been secured since 2003).
  • Analysed technical responses to the UK Government’s consultation and published detailed reports supporting White Paper conclusions.
  • Carried out a review of financing of new runways at Birmingham, East Midlands, Glasgow and Edinburgh for DfT.
  • Won first of four major projects for European Commission.


2002

  • Appointed by DfT to manage the consultation process in advance of the development of the Air Transport White Paper.
  • Key clients in our second year also included the CAA (economic regulation of BAA and Manchester) and Irish Government (review of second terminal at Dublin Airport).


2001

  • Company founded in February.
  • Key clients included British Airways (policy advice), Ernst & Young (Norwich airport sale, Luton airport concession renegotiation) and Peel Airports (forecasting advice at Finningley Inquiry).
